This revised and expanded second edition of Created to Learn—an ECPA Gold Medallion Award finalist—shows teachers how to organize and tailor classroom instruction to fit the learning styles of their students. In a real sense, author William R. Yount takes the theories of teaching and learning and brings them to life inside the classroom. Additional content in this updated edition includes: • More information on new research into learning theories, including discoveries in the field of neuroscience that provide far more detail about brain function. • New chapters on Constructivism and brain-based learning. • Updated research from Yount's teaching experiences in other countries. • Full rewrite of original text, condensing material that has moved into other books, removing data found to be less helpful, and adding research that provides support for evolving ideas about cognitive and humanistic learning theory systems, designing instructional objectives, and the revolution in brain science.
William R. Yount is professor of Foundations of Education and assistant dean, Division of Foundations of Education, at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (SWBTS) in Fort Worth, Texas. He holds degrees from University of Maryland (B.S. in Psychology and Counseling), SWBTS (M.A.R.E., Ph.D. in Foundations of Education), and University of North Texas (Ph.D. in Education Research).
This book is primarily aimed at educators, including teachers and administrators, who are looking to enhance their understanding of educational psychology and tailor their teaching strategies to accommodate various learning styles.
The second edition includes new research on learning theories, chapters on Constructivism and brain-based learning, and updated insights from the author's international teaching experiences, along with a complete rewrite of the original text.
The book integrates findings from neuroscience to provide a deeper understanding of brain function and its impact on learning, helping educators apply these insights in their instructional design.
Constructivism is a key focus in the book, emphasizing the importance of students actively constructing their own understanding and knowledge through experiences, which educators can facilitate through tailored instruction.
Yes, "Created to Learn" serves as an introduction to educational psychology from a Christian perspective, providing foundational knowledge that helps educators understand the psychological principles behind effective teaching and learning.
