        Q&A

Advent: The Arrival of the King

This year, churches around the world will begin celebrating Advent starting November 28. It is a profound season beloved by many, but more profound still is the meaning behind these time-tested traditions.

      How Big is the Candle?

      Each candle is either 12", 16", 17" with a 1½" diameter base.

Should I use Stearic or Beeswax?

Stearic vs. Beeswax: What's the Difference?

*Actual colors of candles may vary slightly

Stearic vs. Beeswax: What's the Difference?

Stearic Candles are made with parrafin wax and stearine which is a very effective wax modifier that has been used in candle making for over 150 years. They are most common because of their lower price point and adequate for most uses.

Beeswax Candles are the highest quality in candles. The advantage of candles made with beeswax is that they burn more cleanly (less dripping wax) and burn more slowly extending the life of the candle.

      Frequently Asked Questions

      • What colors are included in this Advent candle set?

This set includes 3 purple candles and 1 rose candle, following traditional Advent color symbolism. The purple candles represent preparation, penance, and anticipation, while the rose candle is lit on the third Sunday of Advent (Gaudete Sunday) to symbolize joy.

      • What are the dimensions of these Advent candles?

Each candle measures 12 inches in height and 1-1/2 inches in diameter. This standard size fits most traditional Advent wreaths and candleholders, making them suitable for both church and home use.

      • What type of wax are these candles made from?

These candles are made from stearine wax, which is a blend of paraffin wax and stearine. Stearine has been used in candle making for over 150 years as an effective wax modifier that provides a dependable, clean burn with consistent color and appearance throughout the Advent season.

      • How long do these Advent candles burn?

Each 12-inch stearine candle provides approximately 12-15 hours of burn time. This makes them perfect for weekly Advent observances, as each candle can be lit multiple times throughout the four weeks of Advent without burning completely down in one session.

      • Who makes these Advent candles?

These candles are manufactured by Cathedral Candle Company, a trusted name in liturgical candles. Cathedral Candle Company is known for producing high-quality church candles with consistent color, reliable burning characteristics, and uniform appearance for religious observances.
