Spanish VBS Overview

Five friends gather somewhere in the world. They have a mission: to get to know people and places, share special moments together, bring words of comfort, hope and faith. They travel by train, on the Good News Train. They have decided to travel through five continents. They tell how God sent His Son Jesus to free us from the sin that condemns us, in order to give us pardon and the gift of eternal life.

The Good News Train is the only VBS program available in Spanish and Bilingual (Spanish/English) versions, originally written in Spanish. This program is adaptable to any setting, and the amount of time and volunteers needed is flexible.

Each day begins with a shared time for praise where children can learn and sing the program’s unique songs. The leaders will later read the daily story, or they can play the recorded narration on CD, and they will also present the Bible story. Later, the children are grouped according to age for more activities and to do the colorful worksheets. On the last day, children, teachers, and parents can attend the program’s closing event.

The Good News Train includes everything you need for a successful event. It has color lessons divided into four levels for participants ages 3-5, 6-8, 9-11, and 12-14; and for adults there are reproducible Bible studies in the teacher’s guide. It also has color posters, songs, promotional materials, crafts, and much more.

Planning

Get the whole church involved! VBS is an evangelistic event and everyone can participate! Choose the best date, keeping in mind the pastor’s availability, community events, the weather, and the public schools’ schedules.

Prepare a budget. You can organize a fundraiser, charge a small registration fee, or ask for donations.

Ask for all kinds of volunteers to participate. Share the goals of the event with them, and coordinate their interests with their abilities.

Have a promotion team. They can make personal invitations, call families with children, and have an information table at the church.

Without a doubt these crafts will be a success with the children! Choose one or all of them to reinforce the lessons.

• Kids of All Nations – This craft includes pre-cut paper dolls, construction paper, paint, brushes, paper fasteners and yarn for each child to use in decorating his or her project. Making the projects is easy and fun for kids ages 7 and up. The package has all the materials you need to make 24 projects.
• Cross Necklace - This craft comes in individual mini packs which include a cardboard cross, plastic beads and a 24” cord for each child to use in decorating his or her project. The markers are not included. The projects are easy and fun for ages 3 and up. The package has all the materials you need to make 12 projects.
• Eye of God - This craft include floss, craft stick and a tablecloth for each child to use in decorating his or her project. The projects are easy and fun for all ages 9 and up. The package has all the materials you need to make 36 projects.
• String Art Cross - This craft includes 6” x 6” foam squares, acrylic paint (non-toxic), embroidery floss and plastic pins for each child to use in decorating his or her project. The projects are easy and fun for ages 9 and up. The package has all the materials you need to make 12 projects.
• Conductors Hat - Use these fun conductor hats to encourage student participation and make the students feel as part of the trip. The hat is easy to put together and can be used for all ages. The package has enough hats for 12 students.

Lessons

The lessons are divided in 4 levels, with age appropiate activities. The teacher’s guide includes photocopiable Bible studies for adults.

• Level 1: ages 3 to 5
• Level 2: ages 6 to 8
• Level 3: ages 9 to 11
• Level 4: ages 12 to 14

These bookmarks will help the participants apply the day’s lessons to their lives. Included free in all levels!

The bilingual version has the same activities in both Spanish and English; minor changes were made in the English section due to language differences. The fourth level has a comic-style format; it is available in Spanish and now in a bilingual version (Spanish/English).
