Heart Shaper Overview

HeartShaper introduces children to God, His Son, His Word, and His Church through active participation in Bible stories and Bible study, multisensory learning, Bible skill-building activities, and focused life application.

Heartshaping begins when the youngest children see God’s heart in caring teachers.

Heartshaping continues when preschoolers learn about God’s heart through Bible stories and activities.

Heartshaping can continue for a lifetime by helping kids to read, study, pray, and live God’s Word for themselves.

HeartShaper Engages Toddlers & 2s with Interactive Bible Learning

HeartShaper Toddlers & 2s curriculum is designed to engage children in more interactive Bible learning while providing flexibility to group children to unique situations.

HeartShaper Toddlers and 2s curriculum is based on an understanding of how children at this age level learn. Bible lessons are based on that understanding, and includes in every lesson activities and learning experiences for their range of abilities.

Three Easy Steps to Every HeartShaper Lesson

A solid learning process takes learners where they are, guides them to discover what is true, helps them understand it, and then challenges them to do something in response.

This process for young learners happens most appropriately in three steps. Children can explore the theme, learn a Bible story or concept, and respond in age-appropriate ways.

For Toddlers & 2s, this guided discovery and learning is on-going and a part of every learning activity. Each lesson includes three sections:

    Three Step Lesson

    1. Activity Time (a variety of activities to help teachers guide children to explore the theme)

    2. Bible Time (the Bible story or concept with rhymes, songs, and reality-based objects)

    3. Discovery Time (more activities to let children continue exploring the lesson theme)

    Four Step Lesson Plan

Each week’s lesson includes four easy steps.

At the elementary levels—Early Elementary, Middle Elementary, PreTeen—the learning process is a four-step approach. This structure appropriately challenges older children to be more specific and personal in their response to the Bible lesson.

    1. Focus In (activity options help teachers introduce the lesson theme and Life Focus)
    2. Explore His Word (kids interact with a Bible story or Scripture passage, practice Bible skills, and memorize Scripture)
    3. Make It Real (activity options help kids answer, “What does this story or Scripture mean for me?”)
    4. Live It Out (activities to help kids do, say, think, commit in response to God’s Word)

  • Two-year scope & sequence for kids in grades 3 & 4
  • Kids take two chronological journeys through the Bible
  • Bible skills are integrated into every lesson
  • Learning How They Fit Into God’s Plan

At Middle Elementary, integrating Bible skills and Bible chronology into the curriculum doesn’t mean kids are now expected to sit down and listen, but attention spans do lengthen and middle elementary kids are eager to learn about God and how they fit in His plan. They are also at the calmest period of their lives in terms of physical growth, which means they can learn large amounts of Scripture, put the Bible stories into perspective, and attach meaning to what they have heard and read.
